Pricing

The number is right here.

You should never have to guess what this is going to cost. The rate is the same for everyone, on every job, whether it takes ten minutes or four hours.

Minimum

$50

up to ~30 minutes on-site or engaged.

After that

$50 / hour

after the minimum, billed in 15-minute increments.

Travel outside the normal service area may carry an additional charge, disclosed before we take the job.

We don't haggle. The rate is the rate. It's priced for one person who's worth his time.

Why there's a minimum at all.

A $50 minimum sounds like a lot for something that takes five minutes. It isn't, once you factor in the drive to your house, the drive back, the coordination on the phone, and the actual expertise it took to know what the five-minute answer was. The minimum protects both sides — it lets me say yes to small jobs without going broke doing them, and it lets you call for something small without feeling like you have to invent more work to make it worth my time.

What "billable time" includes.

All engaged time is billable — troubleshooting, coordination, research, waiting for another vendor, phone-tree navigation on your behalf, driving to pick up a part. You bought my time; the clock doesn't distinguish "real work" from "waiting," because from my side there's no such thing.

What we don't do on price.

We don't haggle, we don't discount, and we don't undercharge to close. A relationship that starts with a discount tends to be one that keeps needing them. The rate is the rate — for the first job, the tenth job, and the one after that.

Ready to just tell someone what's going on?

You'll know what it costs before you agree to anything. Call and describe the problem — I'll tell you if it's a five-minute fix over the phone, a real visit, or something to send elsewhere.
